Both Zack and Kenshin have cross-shaped scars on their left cheeks! =D

But the hair thing seems to be a pattern as well, from what I know of the characters.

Also, really good fighters, even if they don't always appear to have the attitude/ability for it? For example: Zack's a distractible little dork, but give him a sword and put him up against a few enemies, and take cover to avoid flying body parts. Reward with a puppy treat afterward (treats include jailbait blonds).
